Lissa's Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League Foster Orphans

bullet June 11, 2004 Dane girl J-Lo arrived.

J-Lo is a 10 month old Harlequin Great Dane puppy -- in every sense of the word. We immediately began basic obedience and working on training her not to jump up and not to bite. J-Lo transferred to another foster home after she left us on June 27, 2004.

bullet March 27, 2004: Dane girl Georgette arrived .

Georgette is a 1-1/2 year old Blue Merle Great Dane. She came in as a 29" at withers, 85 lb. bone-thin puppy. The owner said she had hyper-extended her shoulder just before she was turned in. Georgette was limping badly. After a week of anti-inflammatory medication, she was still limping.  A trip to Aardmore Veterinarium in Baltimore, MD showed that she has a bruised tendon in her shoulder. Because of her young age, the long recuperation period, and the fact that such injuries can heal on their own in young Danes, they decided not to operate.

After she was put on Rimadyl to reduce pain and swelling and after being switched to a holistic kibble, Georgette is up to 88 lbs. and is doing very well. Her injury has healed, and she's a frisky, happy girl!

Georgette was placed with a family from Delaware on June 5. 2004.

bullet December 21, 2001:  Eleven month old Dane boy Elmer (later Jacob) arrived.
He was an sweet boy with me, but he was aggressive with people and other dogs. We adopted him in hopes of working through his issues. For two years we took him to several obedience classes, T-Touch sessions, behaviorists, animal communicators, and finally tried sedative drugs.  Then in December, 2003, Jacob attacked our sweet boy Jupiter.  He was eased over Rainbow Bridge on December 13, 2003.
