Holistic Healing: Senior Dane healthcare  May 16, 2008

 

 

 

 
Jupiter spent the morning at Rocky Gorge Animal Hospital undergoing a battery of tests. His health has continued to decline, so we are hoping to quickly find the source and solutions. 

Seven year old Merlot had her third acupuncture session at Veterinary Holistic Care (VHC) in Bethesda, MD. She has continued to do well and we are pleased that her urinary incontinence has subsided. Today 2 YO Savannah made the trip with Merlot so she could benefit from some "hospital socialization." 
 


After three visits, Merlot (left) has become so used to our weekly acupuncture sessions that she stands by the door, happily awaiting the arrival of Dr. Pema Mallu.

Savannah (right) couldn't figure out what Merlot was looking at. My guess is that she decided that looking through the curtain must be like watching TV, only real people with pets walking were by. Silly girl!

Merlot held her weight steady this week at 120 lbs.    Savannah weighed in at a slim 119 lbs but has another year of growth remaining.
 



When Savannah finally met Dr. Mallu, she was delighted! Savannah gave her kisses, nibbled her ears, and leaned on her. I think they liked each other!

The harness that Savannah is wearing is a BeBop front-lead harness. We got the fiery "Hot Rod" fabric which suits her personality. She is much easier to handle with this harness than with head-halters or flat collars. I just wish they came in leather so it would be easier on my hands and on her skin.

 


Today reinforced the fact that dogs feed off the emotions of their canine companions. In the previous two sessions with ultra-calm Jupiter there, Merlot was calm during her acupuncture.

Since today's session was Savannah's first visit, she wouldn't settle down. We were in a small exam room where she could see people passing in/out of the front door. She kept walking back and forth to see what Dr. Mallu was doing and what was "on TV." Merlot got a bit lippy, so we put the muzzle on for the safety of all. She got treats and a "good job!" for wearing the muzzle.
