Holistic Healing: Senior Dane healthcare  May 29, 2008

Eight year old Jupiter has been stiff and sore for the past 6 months. Arising has become more and more painful despite taking Dasuquin, MSM, and Flexicose supplements, and Tramadol for pain. During our first visit to Veterinary Holistic Care (VHC) Dr. Pema Mallu noticed that Jupiter's hips were out of alignment which could be the source of his pain. Hoping to stop treating symptoms and actually solve the problem, she recommended a Chiropractic adjustment from Dr. Mark Haverkos, DVM.

Dr. Haverkos only visits VHC four times each year, but thankfully Jupiter didn't have long to wait. Four weeks after his first visit to VHC, Jupiter had Chiropractic adjustment.

Dr. Haverkos went straight to work, first adjusting Jupiter's neck (left.) The sounds of pops and cracks filled the air, yet Jupiter seemed more surprised than upset. When he got to Jupiter's right shoulder, Dr. Haverkos saw significant misalignment.

Jupiter now weighs 144.9 lbs, 10 lbs less than he did on May 2nd.

Dr. Haverkos progressed down Jupiter's body, realigning his spine, hips and legs. After watching him twist my Dane like a pretzel, I was amazed to notice that Jupiter didn't seem stressed by this manipulation. The only indication of stress was that his tongue was dark read which meant his blood flow had increased.

Dr. Haverkos is wearing a "Keith Richards for President" shirt and is obviously a Stones fan.

Vet Tech Victoria (left) is always delighted to have Jupiter's company! Dr. Haverkos liked him too, and said that considering his age, Jupiter is in great shape! My instructions were to keep Jupiter quiet for a couple of days until his systems adjusted to the alignment.

Afterwards, I noticed a huge difference in Jupiter. Instead of the creaky, lop-sided walk he developed recently, I am thrilled to report that Jupiter walks upright and has a bounce in his step again!
