Merlot's progress through 5 acupuncture sessions at Veterinary Holistic Care has been nothing short of spectacular! She has only soiled her bedding once -- and that was likely a scheduling error on the part of her human Mom. What this really means is her liver and kidneys are operating more efficiently, a result we were unable to achieve through 5 years of traditional medicine.

Miss Merlot has the acupuncture routine down pat, and she loved Vet Tech Robin (right)! We still put Merlot's muzzle on as a safety measure, but years ago we taught her that wearing it is a positive experience. She can breathe freely, only wears it during needle insertion, and doesn't mind wearing it at all.

We got some minor bad news. VHC had their scale calibrated and Merlot still weighs 122 lbs. She had always been underweight until a year ago when we were finally able to switch her to a raw diet. Although now we have the opposite problem, her overall health has improved.

Acupuncture needles are hair-thin and cause no pain at insertion. Dr. Pema Mallu often describes how placing needles in one area will improve an organ function, and how placing needles at several acupuncture meridians is necessary because of the interdependencies between organs. Dr. Pema is so knowledgeable and interesting to listen to that she makes me want to learn more about meridians.

In this photo, Dr. Pema inserts a needle in Merlot's heel to treat her incontinence.

After all needles are inserted, we take Merlot's muzzle off and she rests quietly next to me while she "cooks." Depending upon the insertion points, the strength of her
reaction can be altered by the amount of time the needles are left in her body. Today Dr. Pema also manipulated several needles to create more healing effects.

Merlot has experienced significant improvement in five sessions. She will now begin maintenance visits every two weeks for the next month. Jupiter will join her to maintain the benefits of his Chiropractic adjustment.
