Holistic Healing: Senior Dane healthcare  August 12, 2008

We were delighted to visit Veterinary Holistic Care (VHC) in Bethesda, MD for Jupiter's second chiropractic adjustment from Dr. Mark Haverkos, DVM.

When Dr. Haverkos began adjusting Jupiter's hips, our boy was very calm. He's used to the relaxing effects of acupuncture, so he stretched out and waited for needle insertion. Since Dr. Haverkos starts slowly, Jupiter accepted manipulation.

When Dr. Haverkos began working on Jupiter's spine, he suddenly perked up  Jupiter clearly remembered being tweaked and twisted before. He tolerated it well, but he was not thrilled.

Dr. Haverkos said that Jupiter showed remarkable improvement since his first alignment three months ago. Our bi-weekly acupuncture treatments from Dr. Pema helped maintain the May adjustment. Jupiter's hips and spine have remained aligned and he no longer moves like the 8 YO Dane he is!

Jupiter also lost another pound! He's now 143.5 lbs which will help keep him limber, maintain his alignment and reduce pressure on his joints. 

Above, Jupiter had intensive adjustment of his neck and shoulders where he previously experienced pain.. Dr. Haverkos rotated his foreleg in the socket to realign him -- odd to watch since Danes don't normally bend that way!

As soon as Dr. Haverkos was finished, Jupiter stretched out and relaxed. I'm not sure whether he enjoys chiropractic, but it will keep him mobile as he ages.
