Grannie Scott

These are the only photos I have of my fraternal grandmother, Ethel Iola Scott. "Grannie" said she was born into slavery. At Emancipation, she left Louisiana to work as a cook in work camps across the country.  Along the way she met my grandfather Tenil MacInery. My father Huitt Lee Scott was born as well as a sister who did not survive.

My Grannie Scott could cook! She made real pound cakes from scratch and could fry a mess o' chicken or fish in a jiffy. Grannie made the best cornbread on the planet.

I could sit and listen to her talk for hours. Unfortunately, she died when I was very young.
